EVERLASTIC® WIDE JOINT
SEAL
U.S. Patent Number 5-335-466

 | DESCRIPTION:
Everlastic® Wide Joint Seal is a pre-factory cured strip of silicone
sealant adhered to rectangular polyurethane backer. The polyurethane backer is wider than
the joint opening and the silicone is of a lesser width than the joint opening. The backer
is compressed and placed into the joint, thus holding the cured silicone in a vertical
position and leaving a recess on either side of the cured silicone and parallel substrate.
A wet silicone sealant is caulked and tooled into the recess bridging the cured silicone
and the interface of the parallel substrate. |
 | BASIC USE:
Everlastic® Wide Joint Seal is designed for sealing in vertical expansion
and horizontal non-traffic joints. It forms a durable, flexible, weather-resistance
silicone rubber when exposed to atmospheric moisture. |
 | INSTALLATION:
Material is factory fabricated in lengths of 6'. Material is compressed and
recessed 1/4" into joint opening. A wet silicone sealant is caulked into
reveals. Material can be butted to bond lengths required (see instructions). Clean all
joints prior to installing seal from loose particles, dust, foreign matter, grease, frost,
water, etc. |
 | SIZE REQUIREMENT:
Contact Williams Products Engineering for size applicable for your needs. |
 | COLOR:
Available in 25 standard
and special colors. Custom
colors also available. |
 | MAINTENANCE:
No maintenance should be required. If silicone seal becomes damaged, replace
damaged portion. Clean surfaces in damaged areas and repair with fresh silicone sealant. |
 |
Features:
1. Performance in respect to life expectancy, it lasts because its not affected by
ozone or ultraviolet rays.
2. Primerless adhesion to a variety of substrates, including masonry and concrete, and no
staining.
3. 50% ± movement capability.
4. Cost effective, no waste, you can purchase in exact lengths.
5. Easy to install. "No" cutting of substrates, mechanical fasteners, waiting
for expansion to accure, or adhesives.
"Everlastic® The Better Choice" |
 | 1. Standard Lengths. Standard lengths of Everlastic® Wide
Joint Seal is 6 feet. At one end of the seal the cured silicone is recessed 1/2", the
other end is flush. The recessed end is used for butting head and butt joints. |
 | 2. When Installing Wide Joint Seal. Start at the top (head)
of the joint. Compress the polyurethane backer and place in joint, recessing the
face of the cured silicone 1/4 into the joint. When butting to the head or butt joint,
only butt the polyurethane backer, thus leaving a reveal at the recessed end. Reveal is to
be caulked with a wet silicone sealant recommended by Williams Products, Inc. |
 | 3. Before Placing the Last Piece of Wide Seal. Measure
the distance from previously installed wide joint seal to the bottom (sill) of the joint.
Measure the foam backer (not the silicone strip) and cut to desired length, using a sharp
knife or hack-saw. The recessed end will butt to the previously installed wide joint seal,
the flush end to the bottom (sill) of the joint. Make a cut (through the cured
silicone only) 1/2" back from the flush end of the wide joint seal. Pull the cut
silicone away from backer, leaving a 1/2" recess. Place the wide joint seal in
joint. The recess at both ends will create reveals which are to be caulked with a wet
silicone sealant recommended by Williams Products, Inc. |
 | 4. For Metal Cap or Coping. Use flush end of wide joint
seal for vertical and horizontal applications. Cut back 1-1/4" of the polyurethane
foam (not the cured silicone) from the flush end of the wide joint seal that is to be used
in the horizontal application. This will leave 1-1/4" of cured silicone that is void
of backer. With the vertical wide joint seal placed with the flush end to the top of the
joint. Place the horizontal piece so the cured silicone that is void of backer is resting
on the backer of the vertically placed wide joint seal. This will create a void between
tile cured silicone of the vertical and horizontal wide joint seal; which is to be caulked
with a wet silicone sealant recommended by Williams Products, Inc. |
 | 5. For a Horizontal Joint Butting a Vertical Joint. Place
wide joint seal in vertical joint. Butt flush end of horizontally placed wide joint seal
to vertically placed wide joint seal. Caulk reveal created with wet silicone recommended
by Williams Products, Inc.
How to Caulk Wet Silicone Sealant. Caulk each 6' section independently. Trying to
caulk entire joint might take too long and the silicone may skin over making it difficult
to tool. Caulk across the reveal at the head joint, then caulk down reveals on both
sides of cured sealant and substrate. Tool the wet sealant.
NOTE: Caulk from the face edge of cured silicone to the face edge of the substrate,
leaving a concave configuration after tooling. |
